Job Summary
We are seeking a compassionate, dedicated, and experienced Child Support Worker to provide one-on-one care and developmental support to a young child diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and speech delay. The successful candidate will work in a private home environment and will play a vital role in supporting the child's communication development, daily routines, and overall well-being. The ability to speak Swahili is required to effectively communicate with the family and maintain consistency between home and support environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide attentive, one-on-one daily care and supervision in a safe, nurturing environment
- Support speech and language development activities in collaboration with the child's therapists
- Implement evidence-based behavioral strategies and structured daily routines
- Engage the child in age-appropriate developmental, social, and play-based activities
- Accompany the child to therapy sessions, medical appointments, and school activities as required
- Maintain a consistent, predictable routine to support emotional regulation and behavioural stability
- Communicate regularly with parents regarding the child's progress, achievements, and challenges
- Transport the child safely to and from appointments and activities using a personal vehicle
- Maintain accurate records and notes for continuity of care
- Ensure the child's safety, comfort, and dignity always
- Minimum secondary school diploma (required)
- Post-secondary education in Child Development, Early Childhood Education, Social Work, or a related health field (asset)
- Demonstrated experience working with children with autism spectrum disorder or developmental delays (required)
- Knowledge of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) or other evidence-based autism support strategies (asset)
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and observation skills
- Patience, empathy, and genuine commitment to child development
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- Ability to speak Swahili (required) – essential for family communication and care consistency
- Valid Alberta driver's license and reliable access to a vehicle (required)
- Valid First Aid and CPR certification (or willingness to obtain prior to start)
- Satisfactory Criminal Record Check including Vulnerable Sector Screening (required)
- Private household environment in Edmonton, Alberta
- May require occasional evening or weekend work based on family schedule
- Travel to appointments and activities within the Edmonton area
- Physically active role – may require lifting, bending, and moving with an active child

Additional Information
This position is open to Canadian citizens, permanent residents, and foreign nationals legally authorized to work in Canada. The employer is prepared to support a Labor Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) for a qualified foreign worker if no suitable Canadian candidate is identified through the recruitment process.
